The Silver Panda

Brilliant uncirculated silver Pandas are one of the most popular and affordable ways to collect Panda Coins. They are large enough (the 10 Yuan 1 oz. coins are 40mm in diameter compared to 32mm for the 1 oz. gold Panda Coins) to make it easy to appreciate the beauty of the design. Another appealing feature of the Pandas is the different design on each year (except 2001 and 2002).

The silver Pandas were also minted in large enough quantities that prices are generally below $100. That does not, however, mean that these coins are merely bullion pieces. Several dates from 2000 and earlier are not at all easy to locate. Assembling a collection of high-grade Pandas can also be a challenge, as some strikes are decidedly better than others. These factors makes collecting the entire run of silver Pandas quite interesting and suggests that prices may continue to appreciate as more collectors discover this lovely series.

Besides the 1 ounce silver BU Pandas, the Chinese Mint has released silver proof Pandas in 1/2 oz., 1 oz., 5 oz., 12 oz. and kilogram (32.15 oz.) sizes.
